The Fitness Industry Is NOT Interested In Your Health

The fitness industry has NO interest in your health, wellbeing or self-esteem. It is a multi-million rand industry. And its interest in you begins and ends with your money.

It’s NOT Personal

It’s just business.

It has to get you to buy its products in order to make money. Those products are usually not on-off products. They are products you consume and then have to replace again and again like detox teas, diet pills, creams and shakes. Or they are subscription services like personal training, cellulite treatments, membership websites and weight-loss clinics.

Just take a step back and think about it.  Fitness should be a single-use product.

You should be able to pay someone, learn the skill you need to get fit, lean, healthy or strong and then you’re done with the industry.

Once you know what to do, your focus should be on doing it, not finding the NEXT thing.

But It’s Not

Fit, confident, happy and healthy people are not good customers. That is because they usually don’t care if they’re not “perfect”. They’re happy with how they look even if they’re not Jessica Biel or Ryan Reynolds. They have the energy and confidence to seize the day and live their lives to the fullest. They have no inherent need for diets, gadgets and detoxes because they know how to live a healthy lifestyle year round.

So who does this money making machine target? People too busy to learn for themselves. People who want quick fixes. People who want to be told what to do, when to do it, and in what order to do it. People who want to defer the responsibility. People who want different results without taking a different course of action. People who will pay to be told what to do for years and years even when they only have barely visible progress.

The fitness industry depends on your insecurity, your ignorance, your arrogance, and your failure to keep you hooked so that you can continue to line it’s pockets.

Insecurity: Because as long as you feel bad about yourself, as long as you lack energy, as long as you feel self-conscious in your own skin you will crave the products that this machine has to sell so that you can feel relief from the pain you’re in.

Ignorance: Because as long as you believe that there is an easier way, a quicker way, or a short-cut to having your dream body you will keep chasing fads and scams. As long as you believe that the difficulty you have getting in shape is anything other than a lack of skill – you will keep spending money on things that cannot give you results.

Arrogance: Because as long as you believe that there is a secret to staying lean year round other than managing your food intake and getting enough exercise, you will keep looking for that secret and refuse to accept the responsibility of making healthy choices daily.

Failure: Because as long as you fail you have to search for the thing that will give you the results you want. Once you succeed, you have no further interest or use for any of the things it’s selling.

Here is the SECRET: Change Your Lifestyle

Change the things you eat and do daily. You can’t be healthy and eat unhealthy. You can’t be fit and sedentary. The only way to get fit and healthy is to be fit and healthy and to do the things fit and healthy people do.

You cannot binge drink and have a ton of energy. You cannot do things that are bad for your health and wellbeing every day and then just take a pill to combat your bad lifestyle choices.

Things don’t just line up in the order you like. Actions have consequences. Our daily habits determine how we look and feel.

If you want to be lean you have to watch what you eat 80 to 90% of the time. And you will never be lean year round until you learn this skill.

But that doesn’t sell the way that blatant lying and tapping into a persons laziness and greed sells.

Which Sounds Better?

Do you want to be lean? Then do the work required to learn the skill of eating and training to be lean.

As long as you believe that it’s possible – someone is going to keep selling you that shortcut. The only way to break the cycle is to stop buying the lie.

Here’s the truth about feeling fit, healthy and happy year round:

  • It will take time, so you have to be patient.
  • It will take work, so you have to put in the effort.
  • It will take skill, so you have to learn what works and what doesn’t.
  • The results you get is 100% dependent on the food & activity choices you make consistently.

You will change your life by breaking free from this industry. You will free up so much time, money and confidence.

But the only way to do that is to stop believing the lie.

Remember that the next time someone promises you quick results for minimal effort. If you want results, learn the skill, knuckle down and get to work.
